Read the Agreements Carefully.

In many of our tech sessions, we talk in depth about carefully reading terms and agreements for social media, software downloads etc. We realize some are pages long and sometimes hard to understand. But here is a good example of one warning that is loud and clear. This particular app (“Bitmoji”) allows users to import a keyboard that makes a customizable cartoon portrait. Users need to grant the app access to the keyboard. From there, the images are downloaded to the phone and you can text the cartoons to friends. The warning below essentially says by allowing access, they can read anything you type, to anyone, EVER (or until you deny access and uninstall the app).

This particular app is popular with pre-teens and teens and is associated with the social media app Snapchat. We urge you to keep an eye on what your children download and agree to.
